The women in my life
My name is Shahar Avnet and my final collection is dedicated to my relationships with the women in my life; my two grandmothers, my mother and my two sisters.
Looking back to when I first started studying at Shenkar, I didn’t know how to draw and needless to say, had never done it before. Throughout my studies I began to truly connect to drawing and sketching, and I now realize the impact it has had on my life. Today I draw every day and use art as a way to express myself.
I knew I wanted my paintings to inspire and create my final collection.
When I began thinking about designing, I thought about femininity and my appreciation for the shape of the female body. I always love designing women’s clothing.
This led me to think about the woman I am today and about all of the women who have influenced me along the way.
My inspiration book includes five chapters. Each woman received a chapter where I placed childhood photos, memories and an intuitive drawing. After much deliberation, I built every woman a specific inspiration board, and each board became an outfit or two in my collection.
My final project is made out of hundreds of meters of tulle, which was sewn by hand and usually with free sampling. On the dresses I embroidered drawings and words in Hebrew, combined with Swarovski stones and glass sheds. The outer layers are down jackets and the lingerie is leather.
The collection is not a autobiography, but a personal and private point of view.
